Teaching

Earlier this afternoon I went to my aunt's school to help her for the day.  She teaches first grade in the city.  They were supposed to have a field day type thing except it started to thunderstorm half way through.  We ended up going inside to watch a movie (but they talked too much so she had to stop it) and doing some work.  My brother and I ( Read more... )

really? that's weird. what school does she work at??

my mom's at school 42 in charlotte....elementary special ed. (they went on a field trip too today lol) coincidentally, most everyone there went to geneseo (the principal, the speech teachers, the student teachers...yeah get the picture??) and they pretty much freak out whenever my mom says im a. going to geneseo and b. want to teach. idk maybe they don't particularly like the school they're at? or they're bitter cuz the city was the only place open when they were applying? (it's easier to get jobs in rcsd than out here in ptown for instance)

but you def. should still be a teacher. dont let some sourpusses ruin that.

I agree. You should definitely try to find some teachers who will lift your spirits.

Teaching is hard, and I'm sure at hte end of the year a lot of them are like, "Wait, why did I get into this again?" But definitely talk to other teachers--other schools, other districts. You don't have to limit yourself to any grdae/subject just yet--that's the awesome part. Shea was going to go into special ed and then halfway through college scrapped that and went for social studies secondary instead-it's totally possible to change. Your own experiences in the classroom will make your decision a lot easier than just listening to others. If it's your dream--pursue it. If it ends up not being your thing--it doesn't. But don't let a few opinions change your mind before you experience it yourself! :D (Incidentally I spent about an hour yesterday talking to Miss Rabinowitz about teaching too, lol)

Thanks everyone, sounds like a plan. I didn't realize that it could possibly vary so much between teachers. It's kinda scary actually. Hopefully I'll be the Rabinowitz kind of teacher instead of the city school kind.
