It sounds like this decision comes down to which will make your life easier - sticking with the nasty drugs, or trying to live with a difficult diet. Bit of a mug's choice, I'm afraid. :-/ But if you can answer that question ("which will take the least effort to stick with?"), it may help you decide what to do. After all, the harder something is, the more likely you'll get lazy and start cutting corners (as least, that's what happens to me).
I don't know how big a deal the drugs are (from your post, maybe quite a big deal?), but I certainly get the impression going full vegan - *and* avoiding processed foods altogether - would entail a pretty massive lifestyle change. Is it one you think you'd be able to stick with without going crazy?
On another note, have you tried rice milk? I find it much yummier than soy milk (which tastes to nutty for me).
Wow...going vegan immediately would be far too difficult to do in one go. It was hard enough just going vegetarian to start with. But now that I've been veg for awhile, I dont think it would be that much harder to go vegan if I wanted to.
If you want to head in that direction, cut out one thing at a time. Dairy or meat, or processed foods even. I'd go with the processed foods first. Or dairy. Unless you want to go veg :P But do one at a time if you're going to follow his instructions. I agree withvassilissa that going vegan isn't a miracle cure. I reckon a lot of ailments are from our society's diet, but not everything. But it also doesnt hurt to try cutting things out and seeing what happens. For example, my wheat intolerance is almost non-existent since I've been veg. Unexpected benefit. Going veg or vegan though is a life choice. One you've got to stick with if you're using it for the health benefits. So be certain before you make the decision. But there is nothing wrong with deciding to go halfway and try it out

Try talking to someone like Melissa or Pese about it as they might be able to give you a more balanced approach that means you cut some things and not others.
Having read other people's responses, I definitely agree with the idea of cutting one thing at a time, starting with the processed foods, that will probably help enough that you don't need to go the whole vegan. People pushing their own agenda as you're aware of is not something to follow.
