The wonder of "selbstvertrauen" anonymous July 30 2007, 06:37:15 UTC
It is so great to see Mack how she should be - smart, sharp and sassy! Isn't it strange how we all seem to be at our sexiest when we are around people who do not interest as at all on the "bodily" level? -Mark

p.s.: "Selbstvertrauen" is german and means something like self-assured, self-worth and so on.

If I remember my German correctly, it translates as self-confidence.
I can of course not speak for complex layers of meaning in the word, since I'm not German.

As a native speaker of German, I can confirm that "Selbstvertrauen" translates 1:1 to "self confidence". Nothing more, nothing less.

The "complex layers" you're afraid of come from elsewhere. There are a bunch of words like "Angst" and "Gestalt" and "Lebensraum" that are perfectly normal words but that some English-speaking Liberal Arts major (usually psychologists or sociologists do this) has appropriated from the German language and imbued with deep, dark meanings (in English) above and beyond what the word originally meant in German. Silly, silly.

Interestingly enough, only "Selbstvertrauen" was flagged by the spelling checker. Heh, the kidnapping is complete.

First time reading through all this, I adore it already. The idea of the characters and story basis is just great. I admittedly didn't bother reading the piles of comments on old ones, so I'm just going to try avoiding saying stupid things that have been addressed many a time before. :P All I'm going to say is...

1. I'm so waiting for Mack to get the chance to beat down the ogre girl, and
2. >.> I'm waiting for Mack to snap at and blow up Puddy. Bloody dwarves.

"Do you think you could you help but asking me?" I said through gritted teeth.
This sentence confuses me and I don't know how it is supposed to read or how to fix it.

Yeah, but it has one too many "you"s. "Do you think you could help but asking me?" seems to be how it's meant to read.
