Compassion? What's That?

Today a FaceBook friend was bemoaning the cost of petrol in Canada. This is not entirely unusual, and I left a little sarcastic surprise at the fact that over there they're paying a whole $1.07 per litre, after it went up 4 cents overnight.

And then someone I don't know said the following:
All because people over seas start riots and burn or blow ( Read more... )

there is great rage in your heart, politics, corporate greed

People are, as you say, fuckwits.

There were a couple of laughs in that thread (oh, the naivety of some people: I feel very comfortable saying that I nor my government has anything to do with dictatorship or political unrest anywhere.) but mostly it was just RAAAAAAAGE.

Perfect excuse to use my new Red Lantern Icon.

Oh, I'll be making plenty more for each emotion. If you have any particular requests I'll be happy to make them for you. I likes doing that - all those icons I sent you... they were but a small sample of what I've made - there were around 400 files in the folder I went through.

Oh dear God, Gareth, let me at them! The rage.

What ignorant, self-absorbed, right wing bigots.

And by the way, there is a world of difference between being Western middle class informed and willing to speak up, and not giving a rats ass about who you are screwing to furnish your lifestyle. Sure we could all do more, but don't for one second beat yourself up for other people's lack of moral fibre.

Seriously.

I'm not beating myself up over their lack of morals, I'm just pre-empting any comments about me having the luxury of getting cross about this because I'm well off enough that the price hikes don't hurt me so much as them.

Thing about fights on the internet is that it's hard to feel like you've "won". But good for you for fighting the good fight.

Whenever I get into fights on the internet I just end up feeling dirty for letting myself get sucked in. But thank you.

And also thank you for telling me I should post the other night... while I was kinda thinking about it anyway, I'm enjoying blogging again :D

I'm not sure how much it's the Oil Companies using it as an excuse, and how much it is genuine uncertainities in the markets as a result of the unrest. A little of both, I should think.

I hate the corporate greed, and I hate how dependent on oil we are, but at the end of the day that is effect rather than cause, and I'm not going to get arsey about the cause in this particular case, because I tend to feel that freedom is much much more important than cheap oil.
