Am I crazy?

My coworker just told me he is putting in his resignation next week. He is going to work for a very large, well-established, and secure company. It's actually where my brother worked before he left to go to NY and is hoping to come back to when he returns. Anyways - the reason he told me is that in his new position he will be involved in putting ( Read more... )

Ooh, how exciting! I don't have any advice for telling them that you're pregnant. Legally, they can't discriminate because of that, but that doesn't mean that people don't.

I probably won't mention that I am pregnant during the interview - but I won't hide it either.

I have interviewed and hired a few pregnant women and it's never been an issue, but I know that not everyone is like that!

If he's so great and cool enough, then he'll be ok with it. My boss hasn't even been here a year and I told her we're planning on having kids asap. She's got 2 young one's though and we have no official maternity plan, so I HAD to tell her so we can work out a plan. I'm the Director of a department so we really need to think out in the future.

Anyway, enough about me and back to you :)
I am SOOOOOOOOO excited for you about this opportunity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go for it and can't WAIT to hear about it.

Oh, I think he will be fine with it! His wife was a working mom and I actually worked with him on a very intense (and laborious) project the last month I was pregnant with Braeden.

I am definitely going to for it - it he follows through - so keep your fingers crossed!

I don't think you're crazy at all! I think if the opportunity is there then you gotta go for it if it's something you are interested in. It's also your second baby so you know a bit more what to expect this time, going back to work, etc. and you coworker can always vouch for you if it came down to it regarding how being a working mom works so well for you!

Thanks Jenn - that's exactly how I feel. I just hope everyone else feels that way if it comes down to it, you know?

Nah...you're not crazy! I think it sounds like a great opportunity to have less stress at work (at least from coworkers) and still get to do projects you are familiar with and like to do.

I don't know about less stress - but it will definitely be a much needed break! I feel like I am a bad place right now - with a bad taste in my mouth. I am really ready to be "inspired" again.

Your coworker must think a lot of you and your work or he wouldnt have mentioned it to you.

I think I would mention it to your friend first and then to whoever you interview with (probalby at the end of the interview if an opportunity doesnt come up during it). Here's my rational: if a company wouldnt hire someone b/c they are pregnant, then I probably would want to work for them anyway. That wouldnt set a good precedence for work/life balance. KWIM?

oops...I mean "would not" want to work for them.

I 100% agree. I asked another friend who works for the company (about 1/2 of my friends do) about it today and she said that I should definitely go for it and play it by ear. Since they are building such a big team, she doesn't think it will even factor in during the interview. Plus, my coworker can vouch for me and my work ethic during my pregnancy (he was the proposal manager for the big proposal I was working on when I was 9 months pregnant). Really, the worst thing that can happen is that they hire me and they don't hold my job for me while I'm on leave.
