The metal robot thingies are called Replicators, or Asurans. The actor who played Carson left because he wanted to. And yes, replacing Weir with Carter is just stupid. The producers may as well rename the show "SG1:Atlantis" or "The Sam And Rodney Hour" because we all know that's what it's going to turn into. SG1 is dead. They should've let it stay dead instead of putting the Stargate SG1 characters on Stargate Atlantis. I liked Atlantis because it was different from SG1. Now I don't know if I even want to waste my time watching the fourth season. The show's producers are morons.

I feel you. I'm hoping for the best with Atlants but I won't be surprised if it's not as good as the previous years.
