query for those who have travelled overseas

for my friends who have been abroad: did(does) your bank charge you fees for taking money out of the ATM overseas, and if the answer is no, what bank do you use?? i ask because i will be in venice for 6 weeks, and am not willing to have 6 weeks of ATM fees, which my bank will charge me if i use my HSBC checking account. bonus points if the bank

i hate to say it 'cause i hate them...but citibank actually has a very good international policy.

that being said, i don't recall any nasty charges from commerce from taking euro out in italia.
