I have finally gotten off my ass and gone to volunteer for the Obama campaign. Already, if we don't win I'll feel guilty for not having gotten more involved, but at least I'll have done something now. I knocked on doors for three hours yesterday and again today, and then will be volunteering for 3-6 hours on election day ( Read more... )

Michael and I are working at one of the polling sites encouraging people to stay in line so they will vote. we start at 5 am on election day and go till the last voter has voted. We will be at Stone belt center if you decide to come by there to help us be vote cheerleaders of sorts :)

I have class and stuff in the morning but have signed up to volunteer for Obama in the afternoon/evening. Maybe I'll see you! Good luck!

That's great that you're getting involved. I canvassed for Kerry a bit in '04, in part because I couldn't vote and felt pretty helpless. But no one, myself included, was as excited about him as we are about Obama.

I'd like to be able to do something, but obviously I can't do much here. The best I've been able to do is work like hell to vote when my absentee ballot didn't come. And I gave some of my classmates directions to the consulate to pick up theirs.

And unless I want to stay up all night on a school night, I won't be watching the election coverage either. It's strange to be removed, but not really, from this election. I guess I'll go to bed my time Tuesday night (well before the polls close in the states) and hope for the best when I wake up Wednesday morning.

I don't think we'll know before Wednesday either. In fact, I don't think we'll know for longer than that, because I'm convinced the system is fucked.

Here's the reason a loss this time will be devastating: partly because it'll mean that we're stuck with President McCain. But even more because there's not a chance that Obama could lose this election if everything goes above-board. If Obama loses this election, it will be because of voter fraud and Diebold voting machines, and will be proof to me that our entire electoral process is a complete charade.

I have very little faith in the electoral system. However, I do think that the fact that Obama has obviously been leading in the polls for weeks would mean that if he doesn't end up winning easily, people are going to actually notice. The past two presendential races were tighter, and I have my own beliefs about who actually won--but it's a lot easier to commit wide-scale voter fraud when people aren't expecting one candidate to win.

I might be off the mark here because I'm completely withdrawn from American media. I can at least hope that if Obama doesn't "win", people will be flooding the streets.

We tried to offer! We were even going to fly out to Nevada to knock on doors! But they said we weren't needed.

Too bad you're not closer to Indiana -- we could use you here!

I am hoping for AT LEAST 3 hours!! (Hehe, can be late to work).

I went and made a monetary contribution (and got a t shirt!) at my local Obama HQ, I also registered my dual-citizen cousin and helped her understand the issues and now she's voting for Obama. I am feeling good about myself this election!
