Oh shitshitshit*shit*SHIT these things have a way of happening all of a sudden and things were going so much better. I hope they catch them. I hope Ed&Hank manage to get over it. Also maybe they could remind Edthedog&Hankthedog of looking out for angry mobs, starting with a minimum membership of one.
(I also hope that this post is not based on actual events in your area)

Unfortunately, this and much worse has happened around here. The "way back when" Ed was referring to was the beyond horrifying torture and murder of a young gay man here in the late 80's. Hank has never been able to write about it, partly because he just can't bear to, and partly because he never wanted to remind Ed of it. The two "people", and I use the word loosely, who did it were caught and are in prison.

And Hank figures, since they somehow managed to move on from that, they'll be able to move on from this too. And they sure are glad for the dogs ability to warn them of anything amiss.

Oh that was terrible that Hank was a victim of a hate crime. Hated to read that after all the happiness in the previous chapters regarding the wedding and all. Also don't like to see that Ed is having those ol' negative feelings again.

Yeah. Hank is doing better physically, but he feels like he's lost something that he doesn't know how to get back. I know he'll figure it out though. And Hank sure hates to see Ed having those old bad feelings again too. But they've gotten through a lot in their lives and I know they'll get through this too.

Yeah. Hank and (especially) Ed can sure appreciate those sentiments. Hank tries to rein himself in some though, 'cause he knows Ed could really get himself in trouble if these guys are caught.

I'm so upset hearing this would happen and we all know that even though we keep winning more and more acceptance we still have fools like this who are unaware of what a human being is and how they are wonderful and should be accepted for their differences and embraced. I want to drive out to Utah right now and hunt these people down and teach them a thing or two about treating good hard working honest loving people. I'm glad you are okay or as well as you can be but I also agree that we cannot let them win by hiding and going back in the closet by doing that they are winning and we are losing again. I know it is hard but we have to stand proud and strong. My sincerest thoughts and prayers are with both of you and well I don't know what else to say but my thoughts are with you both. Joe

Thanks, Joe. And yeah, unfortunately some of these western states have more than their fair share of fools. Yesterday a Utah legislator was spouting off about about the Arizona gay bias bill, saying, "protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Utahns cannot exist alongside religious liberty."

That just made Hank's blood boil yet again. He's recovered physically from the attack, but he's still having a hard time mentally. Especially because they've had so much support from their friends here, that it was hard for him to comprehend that there is still so much hate out there.

But he knows him and Ed will get through this as they've gotten through other stuff in the past.

It occurs to me (now I've settled down some)
that Bill may have a thing or two to say about
this. And Betty too come to think of think of
it.
As always, never to forget,
love my favorite old coots.

Yeah. Bill and Betty are up in arms about what happened to Hank too. And even though neither Bill or Betty have kids they both come from very big families, so they were talking with everyone, especially all their nieces and nephews (and there's a lot of them), to see if they've heard anyone (or of anyone) who's been talking about having done this, so the word was spread far and wide and if these guys are from around here Hank's pretty sure they'll be found out sooner or later.

If they aren't from around here, well, then they've probably gotten away with it. Unless they talk about it to the "wrong" (right!) person who comes forward with the information.
