i didn't mean to come across as tactless. elliott smiths music was amazing. he could convey messages that, in my opinion, not many others could. it was the way he played and the tone of his voice as he hummed a few bars. and it was beautiful. the post was more of a generalized comment as to how people hear things and assume they are facts. although, sadly, this one turned out to be true... at the time it was still just the telephone game we would play on our elementary school playgrounds.
