Why is the heat on?

Jun 01, 2005 09:21

I am at work, where it is June 1st and the HEAT IS ON. WTF? This in a building where my office is always cold. It is 84 degrees in here, and the windows are not openable. Even in the winter my office is not this warm. I called Facilities, and the woman said, "I doubt that the heat is on." Well, explain to me the hot air blowing (at full force ( Read more... )

It's not the warmest here at the moment, but we certainly don't need this kind of heat on! And nothing has changed since I posted! Nobody from Facilities has come over. Grrrrrr.

*sends you warmth and sunshine*

Oh, I know that feeling *so* well!!! My sincerest sympathies, and I hope you find a cooler place to work. I guess all libraries are the same :-((((

Yay! Someone from Facilities just stopped in and said they figured out the problem. It will take a while to cool down, but I can feel the difference already. Thankfully. Now, if my headache would just go away....

So, your library is just as bad, huh? Our poor books and computers, dealing with such fluctuations in temperature. I am still optimistic about our new building, but cautiously so, knowing the fate of other new buildings on campus....

Yuck. Buildings really need openable windows, yes they do, preciousss.

I have the opposite problem in the buildings where I teach summer school. The AC has two options, "on" and "off". "On" usually means about 68 degrees. So when it's 105 degrees outside, coming in and out can be quite a shock to the system. But "off" is not an option to be contemplated at all, so when the kids complain, I tell them bring a jacket.

I'm usually OK because I pace when I teach, plus, at the age I am... heh

We fought for openable windows in the staff part of the new library (can't have patrons throwing books out of windows, and yes, we have had that happen in the older section of our current library), but that was a losing battle. Too much stress on the HVAC unit, they argued. Well, then get the heating/cooling right! *sighs*

Throwing books out of the windows? WTF? Severe disappointment with the author's POV?

That is truly bizarre. It's good to care, folks, but, whoa.

LOL. Too lazy to check them out, I suppose. Easier to steal than to take them over to the Circ desk??? This was out of the bathroom window, so we had Facilites install wiremesh screens that didn't open.

It is 68 degrees outside and the fricking air conditioning is on. It is 67 inside, which in the winter everyone would be moaning about it being too cold. I am freezing. I have no thyroid admittedly, but I am so cold I am going to find my heater, dammit. And my afghan!

I hear you and feel your pain!

I definitely would have been complaining if they had had the AC on when it was 55 degrees this morning, so it seems I can't win. I am the Resident Complainer of Temperature in the Library--it is too cold in the winter and also too cold in the summer--at least in my part of the building. I keep a heavy hooded sweater at work year round, which is sometimes used as an afghan when used in conjuction with my other sweater. People laugh, and then ask, "Melissa, are you cold?"

Right now I could do with a little bit of heating. After three days of temperatures over 30 degrees it's now back down to something under 20. *shivers*

Yay for new library building!

And now it's the reverse here! Hot and humid when on Friday it was rainy and chilly. Where are the nice spring days in the low to mid 20s? We seem to have fewer of those in-between days every year here....

Exactly!! I love it when it isn't so warm but the sun is shining. Perfect weather.

I'm so sorry that the move to the new library won't happen now. *comforting hugs*
