Wow. My jaw definitely dropped a few times while reading that.

You're exactly right. College is about learning what it's like when you're the only one responsible for you. When you're the only one in control of you.

exactly! by that point, i think it's counter productive to have constant supervision like that.

Well, yes, I certainly think it's stifling and entirely, without fail, ridiculous. (This is the same university that said my Christian!hippie best friend couldn't even tour the campus unless he cut the hair he'd been growing out for three and a half years.) On the other hand, though, there are people who want that kind of atmosphere; they find it to be a set of shared values, and are relieved that others feel the same. I don't understand them, but they do exist.

Unfortunately, that's true.

How will these kids deal when they actually get out there, though? Because a college or two may be like this, but the world most definitely is not.

i'd imagine that a lot of the students there only go there because of their parents. i'm sure that at most schools there are students who choose to follow rules similar to these of their own accord, rather than have them superimposed on them.

or maybe it's just that i can't imagine how anyone could be happy with those kinds of rules. when i first read it, it reminded me of footloose, and well, we know how that turned out.

that's really weird that they wouldn't let your friend even look at the campus, though. wow.

I agree in that its stupid and horribly shitty and just..argggh, headache inducing. But I doubt they don't know that when they apply to go there.

People are strange. *shrugs*

the website doesn't mention anything about GPAs or SATs or ACTs or anything, and i don't even think you have to technically finish highschool to get in, so, um... maybe that has something to do with it?

i still think that a good portion of them go there because that's what their parents wanted them to do. i can't imagine anyone willingly putting themselves under those restrictions; if people want to live a certain way, then they can do that anywhere without taking away their choices. but then again, if their parents sent them there, i'm sure they're used to living under those sort of conditions.

ah, maybe i'm just too closeminded (or openminded, however you look at it) to understand.
