One aspect of my job that I do enjoy, although I don't get to do it all that often, is to assign call numbers. Once in a while, I'll even get to assign that call number in OCLC, which means that libraries all across the world may utilize the call number I selected. I find it a satisfying challege to find the call number that will best catagorize ( Read more... )

The fact that you can assign call numbers that could be used world-wide is pretty awesome. :)

I have to agree. That's some pretty amazing power you have there. You could totally assign a book about geriatric law under media law easily - not that you would ever be inclined to do so. But the fact that you have the ability and opportunity to catalog something - you give it it's place - well, I think that's pretty amazing.

haha, well, any cataloger worth her salt would realize the call number was wrong when she put it into her institution's catalog. But yes, with great power comes great responsibility :)
