no it doesnt make you a horrible personmsmiles662July 16 2004, 03:20:43 UTC
i understand where you're coming from but i happen to have a cool extended family so i dont really mind going to things. in fact i think i dont get to see my extended family members nearly enough anymore. i used to see them every christmas as my grandmother's house but then she moved to ocean city and most of my family doesnt want to drive that far.
i can however, offer my thoughts on her asking you the question when no was not an acceptable answer. i can remember one night in particular when my dad asks, "are you going to wash the dishes?" i wasn't aware it was my night to wash the dishes (but i learned thereafter that every night was my night, heaven forbid my dad actually do anything around the house). so i said, "no," and went upstairs. he knocked on the wall a few minutes later (that's the way everyone got my attention), said, "go wash the dishes." i got pissed and asked him why the heck he asked me if i was going to do them...
I don't usually enjoy myself at family gatherings as much as I would hanging out with Bad-Person, but I feel an obligation to go anyway. Even though I don't have anything in common with any of them, I feel it gives me a sense of belonging being with them.
In Conclusion: WE LIKE THE JAPANESE PEOPLE AND THE JAPANESE PEOPLE LIKE FAMILY SO WE SHOULD TOO. DOESN'T THAT MAKE US BROTHERS?
We're on the exact same fucking page on this one. In fact, I've been working on a script addressing this exact topic: extended family relations (among other related topics). The screenplay shall be written in the format of home movies (i.e. most of the footage shall be made of up camcorder footage tracking the evolution of one family.) I'll have to share some of my ideas on the project with you sometime. Its a pretty fucked up story so far.
you should go!

its your little cousin and hes turning one!! thats sooo cute! plus its family... how can u hate your family so much?? you only have one family and you should be happy that you have any family at all and not a lonely person with no one who cares about you. i could go on and on about why its important but i dont feel like it.
