Yes I can understand your fascination with the Balkans. I have been planning for a long time to travel there but have felt a bit blocked about spending the time and money, although the place is not so far away, of course.

I like what you wrote here also because, as you can imagine, geographies and cultures have had this role of being a container for as long as can remember. The group consciousness of language, culture, art and ritual provides some sort of angle on the human reality that can put something of our own experiences into perspective. I believe this is what many early people of the world mean when they speak about revering the ancestors. And then, of course, there is also the collective shadow, but that is another issue.
