television crunch time

Mar 06, 2012 09:17

Just saw the news that FOX has cancelled Terra Nova. Apparently they're going to shop around to other networks and for the sake of its fans, I hope they ship it over to FX or Sci-Fi because it seemed like an enjoyable show. I also saw the news on House, which delighted me because they really screwed that pooch several seasons ago ( Read more... )

tv: once upon a time, tv: the finder, tv: fringe, tv: chuck

I cannot tell you how much I am sick of Neilsen ratings. So old and unrepresentative of what my friends and I watch, it's ridiculous. I can only be happy at this time of year when it's Paley Fest time where I can celebrate TV with fans and SEE 1,200 people gather for 1 show. Like my poor little "Community", a show that was put on an indefinite hiatus for a Chelsea f-ing Handler sitcom? REALLY??? But we are back, want our 6 season and movie and will keep going strong!

So yeah, TV, get with the times!

They were old and unrepresentative fifteen years ago and now it's just sickeningly moreso. With the technology we have today, it seems like there's no reason NOT to have exact counts on every tv with cable. Don't TELL me they don't know what we're watching anyways.

I'm glad "Community" is coming back and hope the fandom gets what they want -- they're an awesome fandom (never seen any negativity from them.) :)

OMG WHAT ABOUT CHUCK???? I would cry with tears of pure joy if we got a final season...where is this news????

As for Terra Nova...well I liked it well enough but I'm ok with it being cancelled. I wasn't too invested. Totally agree with you on House....stopped watching like mid season 4. It was so good initially and then it just sucked....some shows can't integrate new characters...

Love OUAT but I also love The Finder....I'll be sad if that doesn't get renewed. Stupid ratings are stupid....ugh. And stupid Americans watching pure crap over well written TV. BOO

LOL, not CHUCK -- there's a rumor that Fringe will get a "Chuck"-like deal: A 15 episode final season next year. So instead of worrying about cancellation, they just KNOW it's 15 episodes and it's the last season, like Chuck had this year. I'd rather that than flat out cancellation, but, like Chuck, Fringe has a couple years of awesome left in it and it would suck to have to settle for that, but again, better than flat out cancellation.

Terra Nova was a show I couldn't fathom being renewed at a network without top 5 ratings just because I knew it was super costly. Agree completely on House.

The Finder might actually be better as a "Summer" Hiatus show -- if the networks want to start trying for that again. And if they cancel, I hope they shop it to USA or TNT because it would fit perfectly with their shows. A lead in to "Psych" or "Burn Notice"? :)

I want to believe it's NOT "Americans" watching pure crap, it's just the Nielsen box owners... they watch SOME awesome shows, but mostly, it's shit.

Haha all I saw was Chuck and 15 episodes and I was like OMGYESPLZNOWTHNXBYE......I loved the series finale but I still want more Chuck...I miss it.

But Fringe...yes I hope they get a similar deal rather than a flat out cancellation. Then need to give us a proper ending.

Neilson box owners definitely watch shit but I think most Americans do too!

I still wanna see Chuck and Sarah's super babies running around in diapers and capes! (It's what the hipster children call "head cannon", apparently, because it's cannon in my head!) :)

They're moving The Finder to Friday for its last episodes of the season and I can only HOPE that some of its audience says, "Hey, I'll try this Fringe thing." It would be good if the numbers went UP heading into the final eight episodes. (The Finder is another one I really enjoy that might get canned. It would have actually made a good companion to Chuck -- they should both go to USA!)

Hey, if they had an accurate count of what America watches and the good shows still have bad ratings, it would hurt, but I think it wouldn't hurt so much. Also, the "movements" to get new viewers would be more reflective. The way it is now, it just feels like 100 families dictate what we watch and that's crazy when there are over 100 million households with televisions.
