Would the US as a "developed nation" cease to be an economic power house if people were "encouraged" to work only 40hrs a week? (and have 5wks vacation)
Speaking for myself, I have almost six weeks of leave (per year) at present that I really can't take because the work I do is such that I can't take the time off, and I'd love to work a 40-hour week but it's just not practical for the same reason. (Maybe I'm the wrong person to try and answer this...)
Would the U.S. cease to be a powerhouse? No. Would it be a bad idea right now, with a recession either forthcoming or in progress? Yes.
but how is it not practical? If there is more than 40hrs of work a week, should there not be more people to do said work? And if there were more people to do said work, and you only "had" to work 40hrs, would you exchange that for Xless money? but still had the same time off?
