Musings on Mortality - What Michael Jackson Meant to Lady Marie

I have a confession to make.

I'm going to miss Michael Jackson.

To paraphrase a quote from www.twitter.com heard at the end of his memorial service yesterday, which the media of course swarmed with their usual sensationalist fervor, "his music has provided part of the soundtrack of my life. It has been there through every decade. What am I going ( Read more... )

I think that he's going to be the last genius we see in the era, to be honest. The face of celebrity is changing. The internet makes it so. Michael Jackson paved the roads to what we have now... music, dance, expression... the internet will create different geniuses, different talents.

I think we should just count ourselves as blessed to have lived to see this all unfold. From Michael Jackson to what happens next.

I'm sad that he's gone, just because for all the reasons you listed, he is a huge icon of our lives. And who wasn't touched by Thriller? I still remember the first time I saw it on MTV, I think it was the premier. I guess this means we're getting old, huh?

We are getting old. Scary, huh? Because I never thought it would happen to me, that's for sure!

I just realized that you only have 8 entries and 1 icon. WTF? Get on the shit!

As for Michael. I know what you mean about his influence on our generation. But I barely gave a crap about anything he did after the 80's, so I'm not that affected. Call me if a member of Def Leppard dies, because that news will FUCK ME UP!

After "Bad" I kind of lost interest in MJ myself, which is kind of sad, because I'm discovering that I missed out on some good music that came after.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't miss Def Leppard, but they didn't enter into the picture until years later.

Madonna is one of the few other icons who's death could affect me the way MJ's has, because she is just about the only other musician that I can remember having such a profound effect on me at such a young age, who is still very much a member of the mainstream music culture.

And as for the one user icon and eight entries... yeah, I know. I'll get there. I might move the best of my MySpace blogs over here eventually. Considering deleting it since I never use it anymore.
