I love that movie. devonbree August 22 2005, 19:18:18 UTC
I believe that's "All I Do is Dream of You" from Singin' in the Rain (and earlier from Sadie McKee, since the songs in that movie are all borrowed from earlier shows). I'm not sure the tune is quite right in the bridge, but I can't remember the whole song, so perhaps you're just doing the end...

I'm unfortunately entangled at work, so I can't really work out the chords as I'd like, but I'll fiddle later and do it, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

...I'm finding myself with five minutes to throw some chords out there.

First correction -- your notes are probably fine, I seem to have missed a phrase in my first reading. And I don't remember the tune that well.

Second correction -- not all the songs in Singin' in the Rain are from earlier shows; there were at least two new ones.

Okay, so, the bridge is shifting to the dominant key for a bit, which is why the fourth phrase ("summer, autumn, winter...) voices a II instead of ii. It's really V/V. So I'd probably dump a plain ii under the whole third phrase. But later with the repeat, I'd resolve the ii7 to a V43 (that's a V7 chord with the 2 and 4 on the bottom), right at the end of the phrase ("and spring...").

I'm getting confusing. Something like this:

355_(1^)55_4555____ ( ... )

The key here is, of course, Coleridge.

Gene Kelly-->Sandahl Bergman (Xanadu)
Sandahl Bergman-->Brigitte Nielsen (Red Sonja)
Brigitte Nielsen-->Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV)
Dolph Lundgren-->Cary (Showdown in Little Tokyo, Bridge of Dragons)

You could also do Gene to Olivia Newton-John in Xanadu, then probably to Travolta, but I think that'd take longer.
Holy Shit! You could do Gene to VINCENT PRICE in 3 Musketeers, VINCENT PRICE to Johhny Depp in Edward Scissorhands, Depp to Crispin Glover in Dead Man, Crispin to Billy Zane in Back to the Future, then the B'Zane to Cary in the Phantom. That's an extra step, but you get to use fucking VINCENT PRICE!

Guess the only two movies I've ever seen with Gene Kelly in them.
Y'know, I think the guy that played Porthos in that version turned out to be somebody too, but I'll have to check on that.

Damn... Xanadu sounds like a real winner there... I might need to rent it (cough cough)

hrmm, I would have to deduce, from your two mappings of Gene to Cary, that you've seen Xanadu and Three Musketeers (the crappy MGM version).

I did a little looking into that Pothos guy. He is apparently Gig Young, and he is apparently SHC. It seems he was married, like, five times, and shot his last wife in a murder-suicide deal.

Incidentally, IMDB also points out that KAAAAAAAHHHHN (aka Ricardo Montalban) was originally cast as Aramis for the movie.
