Seth and Ty belong to
guiltycross. Chris is mine.
The front door opened and Seth slipped inside the house, tired from his evening class. As he kicked his shoes off, the sound of laser guns filtered through from the leisure room. Someone was watching a sci-fi show, and if Seth had to guess, it was probably Chris.
Normally he would do anything to avoid a confrontation with Chris, but his stomach was grumbling for some food. So he tiptoed towards the kitchen, doing his best to remain unseen. But when he crept over, the head he saw was topped with three inches of spiky hair-Ty, not Chris. Seth relaxed visibly.
"Hey Ty," he called loudly over the volume of the television. "What're you doing here?" Without Chris, he meant.
Ty craned his neck to look at Seth and raised his finger to his lips. Seth arched an eyebrow, and Ty pointed downwards. Seth took a few steps closer, peering over the back of the couch. Chris was nestled up against him, his head resting against Ty's bicep, fast asleep. His bangs fell across his forehead, his lashes were long and dark against his skin, and there was a certain vulnerability in the way his arm was curled around Ty's.
"He sleeps better when he's with someone," Ty explained in a low voice, using his free hand to lightly ruffle Chris's hair affectionately. "Otherwise he wakes up at least once an hour."
"Um." Seth wasn't entirely sure when he had given off the impression that he cared.
"Yeah. You know he slept with a teddy bear until he was like, fourteen?" Ty said conversationally.
Seth snorted. "Are you serious?"
"Sure. Yeah. And when we lived together, he slept with me almost every night. He claimed he couldn't sleep on the couch, but…." He gestured to the couch they were on now to make his point.
Seth's smile faded slightly. Ty didn't notice. He could feel the other man, the way he felt about Chris. Ty was straight, whatever impression he occasionally gave other people. And he loved Chris in a purely nonsexual way. But Seth could also feel Chris, and he was fully aware of the way he felt about his best friend.
So how could Chris dare to claim he cared about Seth when he could feel the way he felt about Ty. It didn't add up, and Seth trusted Chris and his feelings even less.
"Sometimes," Ty was continuing. "I think the only reason he, yanno, sleeps around is cuz he just wants someone to hold onto afterwards." He shrugged, forgetting that was Chris was leaning against him, and the other man woke up with a grunt and stared blearily around. Unseen behind him, Seth watched as Chris caught sight of Ty, smiled, completely trusting, and nestled back against him.
Seth quietly began backtracking to the kitchen, but he managed to overhear Chris's mumbled, "You should spend the night, Kiwi."
He somehow doubted that holding onto someone was the only benefit of Chris's sleeping around.
