Author's Note: A short piece in which Ty comes stumbling back into Chris's life. They've got the best kind of friendship.
Seth and Ty belong to
guiltycross. Chris and Graham belong to me.
Chris was watching episodes of Firefly with Seth in amiable silence when the doorbell rang. Far too comfortable on the couch to leave his seat, he shot Graham a pleading look, who sighed and got up from the table he had his homework set at.
He heard the front door open, and Graham's curious "Hello…?"
And then, "Hey there. I'm looking for Kit. I mean Chris. I mean, does he live here?" a confused voice asked.
His eyes widened. Seth glanced over at him, but by then Chris had shot up to his feet. "KIWIIIIIIIII!" he bellowed, and raced to the front door in record time. Graham managed to get out of the way to save himself from being flattened as Chris launched himself at the man in the doorway, throwing his arms around him and suffocating him with a hug.
There was a confused jumble of dialogue after that, which Chris and his friend could seemingly understand just fine, but it made no sense to anyone else around.
"Where've you been-" "Nice mansion-" "When'd you get back, bastard-" "Who'd you have to kill to-" "What's with your hair?" "Been back for weeks-" "Aww hell I've missed you."
They were hugging again, and Chris was trying to mess up the three inches of wild hair on top of his friend's head, who was trying to ward him off, and they were laughing, and Graham and Seth just exchanged a look.
"Oh! Right!" Chris remembered. "These are my housemates. Well, a couple of them. Graham Weidner and Seth Quinn," he introduced. "And this is my best friend in the whole fuckin' universe, Ty Gibson." He grinned affectionately at the man before placing a noisy, moist kiss on his cheek.
"Hey, nice t'meet ya," Ty told them, grabbing their hands one by one and shaking them jovially.
Chris punched him on the shoulder. "Seriously, dude, when did you get back? I haven't heard from you in months."
"I know, I know. I quit the racetrack, I was tired of just changin' tires, y'know?" Ty explained as he followed Chris into the leisure room. Seth and Graham trailed uncertainly behind. "I got a job as a mechanic. Been back for about a month now. I've been tryin' to track you down, man! I talked to your old landlord and he said you'd moved out months ago. You changed your cell number. I thought you didn't want me anymore." Ty gave him a puppy look and Chris laughed and hugged him again.
"My old phone company disconnected me cuz I couldn't make the payments. It was rough for awhile. Then I got a job working for Ethan, and he invited me to live with him and-hey! You need to meet Ethan!"
"He's at work right now," Graham told him, wandering back to his table to finish his homework.
"Oh." Chris's face fell. "Aw, Kiwi, it's so great living here. There's even a pool in the back, and just look at that entertainment system!"
"Ooooh, Firefly!"
Chris looked at his friend with a little smile. "'M really glad you're back. Don't leave me again, k?" he said quietly. Seth heard it anyway, and he'd felt the way Chris's heart had soared when he heard his friend at the doorway. And he thought he was learning new things about Chris that indicated that maybe he wasn't as obnoxious as he always seemed.
The man tilted his head up to look at him with a little smirk. "Oh, Seth, there's not enough room on the couch. Wanna sit on my lap?"
Then again….
