I know that I haven't been available very often lately, and for that I apologize. I had a lot of things to take care of, as well as school. Fortunately, Aunt Amaya says that she will stay until I can sort everything out. I hope to see or hear more of you soon.

Her other relatives were gone, thank goodness (she thought and felt guilty for thinking), back to their jobs and lives, leaving behind more food than Naoko could eat in a month and promises to sort out all the legal issues for her. When Aunt Amaya said she was going to do something, she did it, so Naoko was listening with half an ear for the doorbell all evening. Therefore, she was (for once in the week) the first person to rise when it rang.

It wasn't that she didn't appreciate her aunts' and uncles' presence; she did, really. They had come as soon as she had been able to bring herself to call them, bringing a handful of cousins and more sympathy than she knew what to do with.
