Psh, I say.

I'm getting really tired of hearing how Islam is a "religion of peace"...

Case in point. We're supporting this idiocy with troops and tax dollars? Of course, I shouldn't be shocked, living in a country where we're taught to believe that government-sanctioned murder isn't murder at all... supported with the notion that the tree of liberty must be ( Read more... )

where's amnesty international?

Actually, I'm from an Islamic family and have lived in Pakistan... Islam *is* a religion of peace... But the way individual countries act under the name of Islam is totally different. It's kinda like how Christianity is and how it's carried out in the USA (two very different things).

*nods*

I can certainly see the distinction when compared to Christianity... but what's the logic behind this? Is the logic really, 'If you're not completely 100% for us, you're against us and therefore deserve to die because you're that much of a threat to the existence of Islam'?

I know it's not really fair to ask you, since you're not making those decisions, but I think you'll probably come closer than anyone else on my flist to helping me understand what the reasoning behind this decision is - even if it's flawed reasoning, I just want to know that it exists... kind of like the American pro-death-penalty whack-jobs that misquote the "eye for an eye" verse from the bible and use it as the basis for the the entire shaky justification of their belief system...

(I promise I'm not being critical - please, please don't be offended. You know I compeltely adore you... I'm just desparate to understand!)

I probably can't answer this all too well, but I'll try. It's like any other religion I suppose. I use Christianity as an example because it's the most referenced and the closest thing to Middle East-crazy that we've got XD I'm not trying to attack it; this stuff can be applied to many major religions.

Like how CHristianity teaches you to love thy neighbor and all that kind of stuff, yet it seems like they're the first to attack someone for being different - if you're Pagan, you're a devil worshjipper; if you're gay you're BAD and you're going to go to hell and die in a fire, etc. It's the majority of the people and the rule they're under that seems to determine the way the religion is interpreted.

Sry, My brain is broke today, so this might not make any sense, lol.

http://www.religioustolerance.org/ might be better able to help here :)

And I'm not offended. I totally understand where you're coming from!

You've got a wedding to plan and you're talking about culture, religion and government?

Why, exactly? =D

Just 'cause you have Razzle Dazzle Rose in your hand doesn't mean you can make a masterpiece! It takes a little bit of Periwinkle, some Laser Lemon and Chestnut and Cyber Grape! There are many things in life and culture, religion and government are perhaps just as important or just as worthy of conversation as one's own wedding. Especially because the former three hold more to speculate on. The other thing's a done deal. =)

Well you're just a party pooper aren't you, darling? =) You KNOW I wasn't saying that culture, religion and government are inferior to the Kristeric wedding... I was just saying, it's more fun to discuss le wedding.
