Haters to the Left Airlock

I want to start off with a little explanation about myself. See, I have this love / hate relationship with critics. On the one hand, I completely understand why they are necessary, both for audiences and showrunners alike. However, I also think criticism is a huge problem. I don't mean literary criticism when I say " ( Read more... )

As someone who more often than not finds myself falling into a critical pattern with television, I'll admit that my first reaction to this episode was frustration not over the fact that there was exposition, or the content of that exposition, but how that exposition was handled ( ... )

Sorry, Myles, I'm not ragging on you as an individual. I think you're kind of a genius most of the time. You have a way of seeing structure in episodes that I am incapable of seeing, but frankly, I think I'm glad I can't. It just makes me sad that you can't turn off that part of yourself to watch this show (probably because you did spend so much time on it -- which is why I'm going to refuse to write about this show for my masters, even though I totally could). And I guess, because I don't see anything wrong with the episode and I pretty much want to make love to it, I get really defensive and upset when other people can't get as much enjoyment out of it as I do.

But really, you're not the problem, so don't feel bad. This post is mostly directed towards people who are so egocentric that they can't get past their own shit to see what an episode is really trying to do. Like, why didn't they do it this way, this is how I would have done it. Like, shut the frak up, assholes and watch the frakking show that's in front of you.

Great "review"...actually, I think I'm going to start calling what you do "awe-summations." A friend of mine has theorized that the majority of professional critics (whether they review movies, books, music, or TV) actually hate the medium they review, which is why they can't garner any kind of enjoyment from it.

Anyway...dude, I think this was the coolest episode of BSG in a long time. (Probably not since Galactica jumped into the atmosphere of New Caprica.) It was all twisty and mindfrakky what with the whole who created who and when stuff.

As for Cavil, I know a lot of people are making the Cain connection, but I got more of a Lucifer vibe. The scenes with Sam and Kara were some of the best dramatic moments on TV this season. I can't say that I had the same reaction you did to the whole Boomer thing...but, when Adama tells the Chief "I need a Chief and all I have is a Galen", damn I nearly lost it.

Yeah, that was a good part. I should have written about it, but this was already six pages long. And thanks!

"as Sam tells it, is that the 13th Tribe gave up on the memory transfer and began reproducing genetically. Why would they do this? I don't really know" I think it has to do with what 6 said a while back when they were discussing the Hub. "We began to realize that for our existence to hold any value, it must end. To live meaningful lives, we must die and not return. The one human flaw that you spend your lifetimes distressing over, mortality, is the one thing... Well, it's the one thing that makes you whole." This has all happened before, as they often say, and the new Cylons came to the same conclusions as the old Cylons ( ... )

That's the quote I was thinking about (Natalie said it in "Guess What's Coming to Dinner?") but I just couldn't put my finger on it, so thanks.

Also, yay comments!
