press one for english

I know it's ethnocentric of me to say this... but I shouldn't have to press one for english. English should be the default.

What was the default in the instance you speak of?

I don't know, I pressed one. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't.

It is the default, that's why you're pressing 1.

Para espanol, abre numero dos.

It works the same as the one at the pharmacy, you press a number to get to another board, they just need to know which board to send you too. You're pressing one to go on to the next step, instead of listening to the choices over and over, which is what happens when you press nothing.

They could set it up so that it automatically goes to the english menu when nothing is pressed.

I'm just curious as to the reason why you think English should be the default--it isn't America's official language or anything....

Not being incendiary, I'm just genuinly interested in your reasoning, because I feel the same way, but I don't have a good reason for it.

English isn't the official language of the USA? Try filing legal documents in any other language. It may not be written down anywhere that English is the official language. But it is.

But it isn't....

Hence the use of the word "official"....

If it's not the official language then why doesn't the government recognize legal documents in other languages?
