It's that time of year again... black milksnakes tend to breed fairly late in the season, so Cher didn't drop her eggs until about two weeks ago. Two slugs and two good eggs... talk about a disappointing season! I actually took her to the vet earlier this week to get x-rays taken, just to make sure she wasn't eggbound. Wow, I don't think I went swimming once this past summer.

So about 3 or 4 weeks ago, my washing machine, which had been lurching and shuddering and pitching fits with increasing frequency, finally died. An autopsy revealed that the water pump had leaked on/into the electric motor, which is, unfortunately, prohibitively expensive to replace. So what's a boy to do? Early Sunday afternoon, at the foot of Mousam Lake, just as I passed the beach where I went swimming countless times as a child, the old beast finally hit the 300,000 mile mark. It was even running on vegetable oil at the time, just as I always hoped it would be.

The winter holidays have come and gone, and I am happy to report that I survived. Christmas was, as I had hoped, not too shabby at all. My cousin Nicholas showed up (haven't seen him much since his mom and my uncle split) and it looks like he'll probably go to WPI this fall. Despite being severely undersocialized, sticking around Bangor for the past two weekends has let me get a ton of work on my car. Unfortunately, I'm the only person really working on it... the only full-time mechanic at the body shop had to quit last month due to health problems, and the owner is having a hard time even finding reliable part-time ( Read more... )

So much for my blue L.L. Bean backpack. ZATARAIN was a faithful traveling companion, always full of the little tools and tricks and sundries that a fellow needs on a weekend away from home. Ah well, at least I still have my bitchin' Hypnotoad man-purse.

I haven't been slacking when it comes to writing in this silly thing, I've been conscientiously abstaining. There is a difference. It's been a tense and frustrating couple of months, and I'm really not the type to make whiny, angsty journal entries.
