ZOMG! Questions for my friends regarding Teh Internets:

1. When, and why, did people start prefixing "OMG" with a "Z"?

2. When, and why, did people start purposefully misspelling "The" as "Teh"?

at least, what, 2 years on both? 3? fuck if i know.

1. zOMG is a varient of the all-too-popular acronym "OMG", meaning "Oh My God".

The "z" was originally a mistake while attempting to hit the shift key with the left hand, and type "OMG"

Also used in all-caps, 'ZOMG' is generally used in a sarcastic manner, more often than not a humiliating fasion. It is also used as a device for stating the obvious.

2. Orginally started off as a typo for "the", but recently has changed a bit in meaning. "Teh" still means "the", however, it is mostly used in the same manner that spanish speaking people use the word "El".
"I got two cookies with teh whipped cream!" makes sense, but "I got two cookies with the whipped cream!" doesn't. Get what I mean?

also, it's own wiki entry

Thank you! That's a great answer. I got ZOMG right, but Teh kind of wrong. I think Teh has a little bit of humor implied as well, by the way. Any way you slice it, Teh imposes a little bit of significance, brilliant or stupid, on the following object/subject.

Allright!

I'm not sure because I don't use either of those, but I always thought that when a 'z' follows a word, you are to pronounce it "zies" and not "zzz". Like LOLZ is pronounced "Lollzies" or, perhaps "laugh out loud-zies" which is it's own brand of weird.

i don't know about either of them, but whenever i see "ZOMG" i think "zombies oh my god!"

I too think Zombies Oh My God!!! But I know that's not what it means. It's really funny that you think this, too.

THANK YOU. I have been wondering about these things, but it never really occurred to me to ask. The other thing that doesn't make a damn bit of sense to me is "can has." I have, on the internet, encountered such sentences as: "I can has wish you happy birthday!" I don't get it. It is gibberish to me.

Yeah, it's LOLCATS-speak. It's a dialect.
