I'm sorry for your troubles and that it all turned out the way it did. None of the other candidates interest me and I was planning to vote for the Senator. But when the story came out, it was obvious he was done.
It's a real shame and the Senator's departure is leaving us with a very boring race where no issues of consequence will be discussed.
As it stands the only other organisation who could nominate a candidate through the typical means of 20 Oireachtas members is Fianna Fail and I think their nomination might still be fairly toxic. Sinn Fein are 3 short of nominating their own or I'm sure they would and the Independants have yet to agree on anyone.
The only other option is for Mary Robinson to nominate herself as she has only served one term - wouldn't that be fun to watch?
I have to admit to being really sad that it didn't happen.
Also, I'm aware of the amount of work that goes into these campaigns and I'm sorry you didn't get to the end of the race. Better luck next time with your endeavours - however sadly I think the good Senator will have to wear the taint for a while yet.
I think the whole process of nominations is deeply flawed. I also wish DN had the chance to run and allow the electorate to make it's own mind up.
While I don't agree with you on a lot of things idealogically I'm delighted to see you getting involved in the real deal politics. Long may that continue, the country needs people like you.
