I don't know if it was really the same thing but... the2ndhandkid January 2 2008, 00:01:12 UTC
I felt a pain something like this one night a few weeks ago. It lasted a few minutes and then went away...i was lieing on my back at the time it started. I assumed that was the issue, and since then I have been sure to either lie on my left side or prop pillows under my back if I lie on my back. I haven't experienced it since. Although sometimes I still wake up with my back aching from strange positions. I'm new to this to...sorry I can't help you anymore. But I hope soemone has an answer for you.

Thanks. And I'm glad that your weird pain was just a one-time thing.

Thanks for your comment. I feel better reading this. I certainly expect that intense pain will happen eventually. I just feel like 18 weeks is a tad early. I expected that would all come as I got really huge and unweildy.

Chiro appointment tomorrow, massage on Sunday and midwife next week. I'll get some answers and report back.

It could be because your ribs expand during pregnancy (2 - 3 inches from what I remember reading). If the pain continues, I would contact your doctor because it is possible that they can expand too much.

Yikes, too much expansion sounds scary.

As a side note, I keep waking up complaining about rib pain. My husband, a Simpsons fan, has taken to calling me "Ribwich."

This is probably pain from rib expansion. I had a lot of rib pain/discomfort in my 2nd tri and went up several bra band sizes. These changes can also cause the cartilage at the junctures of your rib/sternum to swell and press on nerves, which also sucks. A heating pad helps a lot.

do your ribs go back to the prepregnancy state at all??

I have no idea. I hope so, but I'd guess probably not.

Yow. I had no idea. I will be on the hunt for a heating pad or hot water bottle today. Thanks for the suggestion.
