Jury Duty.

I'm one of the twelve angry.  I didn't try too hard to weasel out after all.  Most of the other people who did sounded like such cry-asses that it would have been embarrassing to even try.  Looks like the trial will go for the rest of the week but I hope it doesn't go over.  I like fellow my jurors--we all got along like peas and carrots--but I don ( Read more... )

You know, what's up with this? Are the gov't workers suddenly trying to meet a quota at the end of the year? Like a cop with speeding tickets at the end of a month? I'm serious. I have a jury summons. Two other people at work have a jury summons, all right out of the blue. No one had one for months. Now two of us even have a summons for the SAME day (2 days before Thanksgiving, like they're really going to START a trial on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving... riiiiiight....). This in our town of 12 people. Okay, so S.V. is bigger than that, but you get the idea. Jeez.

It must be a thing, trying to clear out all the year's trials before the end. Seems like the employees @ the courthouse have been working overtime. I hope you don't get yanked!

It's not that I don't want to. I know it's my civic duty and all that, my contribution to the justice system. But 2 days before Thanksgiving? And just as bad, it's a payroll week at work. And guess who is the ONLY person who knows how to do the payroll for 51 people?

::sigh::

Of course, if they didn't get paid, maybe they would actually treat me better. Hmmmmm...

Bad trash books are therapeutic. Life would be so much duller without them.

I hate to admit it, but I look forward to trashy books like other people look forward to cocktail hour or their favorite TV show. Like "okay, I made it through (whatever unpleasant task) so I totally deserve a trash novel!
