My 15-year-old cat Mischief was hit by a car just over a month ago. She had been a major part of my life since I was nine years old, and it's still strange not to have her here, curled up beside my pillow and purring me to sleep.

OK, I have more information about my friend who survived a house fire (as I wrote about hereHe has a badly broken arm that is currently too swollen for a cast. He had to get stitches, he has burns around the head (especially ears), and there is still a lot of black residue in his lungs. He's in considerable pain. One of my good friends was in a 3 AM house fire. He just barely escaped with his life-by kicking out his bedroom window (which had been painted shut) and falling 20-30 feet. He is recovering with a broken arm, burns, and other injuries, and he lost everything he owns besides his car and the clothes on his back.
