I dreamed that Hornblower fell in love with a dragon and they went and lived in a cave and licked each other. OK, so I'm not going to rush out and write the story, but it was kind of cute.

Why do all the best toys come with £3 million price tags? I couldn't afford Canonteign (Pellew's estate, which he actually bought for Pownoll) when it was up for sale and I can't afford the Grand Turk. Grumble.

I was just looking around YouTube and I discovered that someone has uploaded some episodes of the 1970s BBC series The Good Life, including the episode "Our Speaker Today", in which Robert Lindsay makes a small guest appearance (at the end, in Part III) as ( an inmate of a remand home )

In 1805 Pellew's eldest son Pownoll was shipwrecked in the West Indies. I just came across this: "The Wrecking of H.M.S. Fly", which includes Pownoll's statement to his court martial. He was acquitted of any wrong-doing; it seems an error in a pirated chart was responsible for the sloop running onto the reef.

I was going to post Antipodes for Pellew's birthday (yesterday) but I discovered that my incompetent editing had created so many missing words etc that it now needs a proofread. I'm about half way through but as it's just minor things I hope it won't take very long.

I've been away for a few days and, as usual, I found something historical to get excited about: Stroud NSW, founded in the 1820s. It's a really sweet little town with lots of historic buildings.
