If you backtrack even farther in my blog, you'll find a post wherein my love for the Chipotle burrito back when the only one was in Medford, mixed with my willingness to walk stupid distances, led me to walk from my home in Needham to the Medford Chipotle. (I think I did T most of the way back, though... a guy has to have limits.)
I do like walking, partly because I had to walk a mile both ways for four years in high school. Ksatyr visited me a couple times up here while we were still dating and the two of us walked from my school to a vegan pizza parlour --about three miles. That's the furthest I've ever walked in order to get to a specific destination, however.
I occasionally go on incredibly long wanders, the best of which took me from Davis Square to Union Square in a roundabout sort of way. Still, not quite the same as walking to a destination.
Was the walk to/from school uphill both ways, too? :-)
I tend to prefer to have a walk destination... if I can be practical and mix my desire to walk with my desire to burn calories with my desire to get someplace, that's even more of my brain that's happy with the idea.
There is a nice little marsh-land/pond/park that takes up a few square miles near my home. Especially in the fall, I would use it to wander... I'd walk one audio CD (usually one of the Series of Unfortunate Events) out, and one back

Eek! Damn though, you win butch points. I don't think I've ever walked eight miles in *good* weather.
Also, portal is love. Yep.
