The Ball is Rolling

So things have kind of, sort of begun to settle down in this new life at college, at least compared to two weeks ago. I have a regular class schedule and daily crew, I've gotten to know some nice people a bit, and Harvard is turning out to be a place I think I can really enjoy. Here's my classes, all of which I really like: Intermediate German, ( Read more... )

Good to hear that things are going well!

My Physics class this semester is Special Relativity and Quantum Mechanics, and we just finished our five weeks on SR, so I'm curious what sort of stuff you're doing. Have you done Lorentz Transformations yet? All that fun stuff with space-time diagrams?

I'm back for a week in Portland on fall break.

Crew is going quite well, I really like it. The sport is huge here, and for the guys (who have a seperate boathouse from the girls) they divide up the experienced freshmen rowers from the novices (like me) and then further divide between heavy and lightweights (I'm a lightweight). Bill Manning seems really cool, he was actually the one who convinced me to come out in the first place at the activities fair. I told him I was from Lincoln and that I knew you and some of the other rowers from ORU and he was like "Oh yeah, I know about those kids." I haven't seen much of him lately though cause he coaches varsity and we have a seperate freshman coach. A few times I've said to myself "Whoa, what's Sean T-G doing here?" and then realized that it's Jonah that I'm seeing. But crew is definately great and I plan on sticking with it at least through this year.

So far we've just been doing kinematics, but at a significantly higher level than high school, it all calculus based and when I'm doing the problem sets, which are real bitches, I feel like I'm doing more math than actual physics.

Actually I'm not entirely posative what Manning is coaching, or for that matter who is coaching what except that I know that the freshman novice lighweight coach for us is Linda Muiri, coach of the women's junior nationals team.
