The work on the treehouse was solid, done by hand at speed--great speed--without magic, it had lasted past the sudden reversal of all arcane powers. Robin had checked it all over carefully, testing the strength, the support, the work and determined that it would hold which was an unexpected bonus. The slight creak of the boards under his weight betrayed Bart as he walked over to join his friend. The fading light seemed to fill his eyes, reflecting back in an amber glow that appeared unnatural at first glance. Even so, he approached the caped crusader, sitting down with one leg dangling over the side, leaning against a convenient branch that was going to eventually be part of the porch structure.

"Sometimes it goes by too fast, huh, redbreast?" he asked, quietly, not wanting to interrupt the noises of the changing of the guard, as the familiar daytime sounds faded into the calls of the night.

For a moment, Robin just looked at his teammate, though what he was seeing had always been a matter of speculation since he wasn't inclined to share his thoughts. Now it could have been anything.

"How are you?" he said finally, which was an answer as much as it wasn't.

Bart stayed silent for a long time, thinking. Probably longer than most people thought he was capable of, but that was only because of some of the tricks of subjective time.

"To be honest, I'm kinda glad it's gone again," he said, absently brushing his hair from his face. "I'd rather take things one day at a time."

"The support work on the house is strong. We're ahead of schedule and we've got enough materials to keep on that way." Have you always been this calm? Robin didn't say. Did we always misunderstand you? "I wondered how you would take it. Getting it back, losing it again."
