Er... forgot to say... chris_maslen's other half was after a D&D dungeon crawl type game at one point. You should ask him is she's still interested.

Why was there cloth on top of a gas fire anyway? I never tried drying anything by putting it directly on it before on the assumption that it might burn.

Admittedly, mixed in with the guilt was the anticipation of being able to say to you "I set your pants on fire!" when you got back.
