Apparently LJ was sold to a Russian company in 2007, and moved a bunch of operations stuff to Russia in 2009.

So now the site has to conform to Russian law, meaning having certain content on your blog can get you IP blocked.

So GF's birthday present may be late because I didn't order it in October like I'd planned. It's been days and no shipping confirmation. Frustrated. It may be out of print, or backordered or some such. Very tired. Bed in about 2 hours, I hope.
