Chapter 5
Promises
“Eh? So he is a bad guy,” Mayuko reacted when Mirai told her. Mirai nodded her head abruptly. Mayuko sighed.
“Let’s sleep. We’ll have school for tomorrow.” Mirai pulled out her blanket. Mayuko also did the same and off the bed light.
Takaki was talking to the phone at the corridor and Arioka waited for him in the room. Takaki ended the phone call at last and walked into the room.
“What did he say?” Arioka asked.
“It’s okay even though they have sent someone to Shida class. We don’t have to copy them. Anyway Shida had known Yuto for years. I’m sure if anything happen she’ll inform Yuto and summer holiday is coming soon. So, no worries.” Yuya ended his long speech. Arioka nodded his head.
“Here,” Arioka gave Yuya a paper bag. Yuya took it and pulled out a scarf.
“But, now is summer.” Yuya asked confusedly.
“I thought you’ll like it,” Arioka was about to walked away.
“I-I…...” Yuya was speechless.
“I love it.” Arioka turned to Yuya back, smiling happily.
Yabu turned around to Hikaru.
“Hachibee, are you sleeping?” Yabu asked whispering.
“Not yet,” Hikaru answered but still closing his eyes. Yabu turned upwards, looking blankly through the ceiling.
“Is something wrong?” Hikaru turned to Yabu.
“Am I too forcing Ryosuke?” Yabu asked, still looking to the ceiling.
“A bit,” Hikaru answered. Yabu sighed.
“I’m not a good father after all,” Yabu turned away from Hikaru.
“Forcing is not bad at all. Sometime Ryosuke need it because I pampering him all the time.” Hikaru said. Yabu turned back to Hikaru.
“You really love to pamper that boy. I’m jealous.” Yabu was making his sad-puppy face.
“He is your son. Don’t have to be jealous. But I think he is hotter than you.” Hikaru tried to joke.
“Eh? How could you?” Yabu turned away.
“Like father like son,” Hikaru said suddenly. Yabu turned back to Hikaru.
“What do you mean?” Yabu asked.
“Nothing, it just he is really our son.” Hikaru said.
“Of course!” Yabu answered confidently.
Ryutaro was sitting besides the window of the kitchen, watching the dark sky. Luckily the moon was shining brightly tonight.
*Flashback
“Ryu-chan, please protect your brother.” A woman was lying on the ground while his leg was crushed by a big wooden pillar.
“Oka-san,” Ryutaro was hiccupping.
“Please...” The woman’s eyes closed gradually before she could ended her words and her chest stopped waving slowly. Ryutaro looked deeply at the frozen figure before his eyes. I promise I'll always protect Ryutaro even with my life.
.
Ryutaro wiped his tears and stood up, started searching for Shintaro. There were fire every where and lots of thing fell. Ryutaro covered his nose from the thick smoke. He coughed a lot too. Searching from room to other room. Suddenly he saw a figure in his mother room.
“Shintaro!” Ryutaro called his brother name when he saw Shintaro lying on the floor. Ryutaro quickly piggy back Shintaro and tried to get out from theirs house.
“Oka-san,” Shintaro suddenly murmured. Ryutaro looked at his brother.
“Gomen na, Shin-chan.” Ryutaro’s tear flowed again.
*End Flashback
“Ryutaro? You’re still not sleeping?” Ryosuke asked when he saw Ryutaro at the edge of the kitchen.
“You too,” Ryutaro answered as he saw Ryosuke opened the refrigerator.
“I can’t sleep,” Ryosuke walked to Ryutaro with two can in his both hand and was giving one to Ryutaro.
“Thanks,” Ryutaro took it, opened it and slurped some of it.
“Ryutaro, why did you enter Chess?” Ryosuke questioned Ryutaro.
“Because Yabu promise he’ll find a perfect heart for my brother,” Ryutaro answered, taking another sip.
“Then, why you didn’t visit him?” Ryosuke asked, looked intensely to Ryutaro. Ryutaro didn’t answer. He just looked emptily to the can. Ryosuke turned to the sky.
“Today, I meet a boy who plays greatly with his sword.” Ryosuke started telling. Ryutaro looked at Ryosuke, shocked.
“Chinen?” Ryutaro asked.
“I don’t know his name but he said this to me ‘What you have done to Ryutaro?’.” Ryosuke told Ryutaro.
“I’m sorry,” Ryutaro apologized.
“You have a good friend and cute little brother. I wonder what have bugging you all this time.” Ryosuke looked at Ryutaro.
“Actually, I don’t deserve Chinen and Shintaro,” Ryutaro started. Ryosuke waited for Ryutaro’s words.
“Shintaro is a nice kid but I break my promise. I promise him that he will get a new heart and oka-san, Shintaro and I going to the park together after he recover. I have broken one of it.” Ryutaro turned away, trying to hide his teary eyes.
“I understand, but I wondered how Shintaro feels when he know that his big brother have given up on him.” Ryutaro looked at Ryosuke confusedly.
“I want to sleep, good night.” Ryosuke left Ryutaro alone again.
*Flashback
“Oni-chan, can I recover?” Shintaro asked.
“Of course, you must recover.” Ryutaro convinced his little brother.
“But most of people who live in the same wad with me had died.” Shintaro almost cried.
“That’s because they give up easily.” Ryutaro smiled and patted his little brother head. Shintaro always love when Ryutaro doing that.
“Promise me that you’ll never give up and fight this sickness until you recover.” Ryutaro gave his little finger. Shintaro smiled and tied his little finger with his brother’s.
“I promise.” He said and smiling sweetly.
