From the age of 8 I knew I did not want to stay in suburban NJ, but oh how joyous the place now makes me when I visit. I walk down the street of my hometown and just wave the whole time asking "How is so and so and how did this or that turn out?". I revel in the choice of fabulous restaurants with incredible service. I walk on the beach and am amazed at the NYC skyline. If I don't scratch below the surface, there's no place like home.
If I stay longer than 2 weeks the excessive consumerism, chosen ignorance, ridiculous politics and the necessity of a car to do anything start to annoy me.
I am always happy to return to my my nice, swampy little liberal haven.
