Get a G4 Powerbook from mac, those things drop bones.

most household labtops and desktops are the same these days, it's not really about what brand you get, its more so what type of options the company provides (and they all usually give you the same options). the key is to get the fastest modem, with the most space you can afford.

mac is good but usually not compatible with a lot of programs which can cause problems. i'd go with a dell or alienware, mostly because they have the best customer service and warranties. which-for college-is what your gonna need.
(alienware is actually highest ranked, but they mostly only build gaming cpus-although they sell an equally good labtop).
