so i adopted a cat today. i had fallen pretty hard for jason and casey's cats (carbunkle and chloe, respectively) and when i moved out of the house in indy i found myself talking in my kitty voice to empty air. this was problematic on a number of levels.

I voted "Manami" because cats tend to like names with about two syllables (so they're easier to recognize) and that end in "ee." If you change it, that's my suggestion. But I was torn in the first place. Lilo's a pretty bitchin' name, and if she already responds to it...

So how old is she? Any idea?

she's two. apparently someone in the family that had her previously developed allergies to her, so they brought her in.

That's why I voted for that one too. My cat who has a name that doesn't end in an "ee" sound gets nicknames that do, and he's more responsive to those, heh.

I voted for Beru, but I think you should name her Padme instead for two reasons. First, and most obviously, the name Padme mixes two of the sexiest things in the world: Natalie Portman and the Star Wars universe. And two, Padme means lotus in Sanskrit, which represents wisdom. And cats are fucking wise, my fellow bromosexual. Know this.

You have some kickass names all around though, man. I am impressed. Just promise me you won't end up naming her Mudkips.

I voted for Sandhya because I thought it was a neat name for a cat. And I think that Carbunkle responds reasonably well to her name, while Chloe will ignore her name unless she wants something.

Ridiculously pretty cat, though, dude. Can't wait to meet her.

This may not be helpful, but my family has an atrocious tradition of naming cats after food (mostly after sweets or candies). Usually it's because said unlucky creature happens to have the same color fur as a Heath Bar, or Snickers Bar (of course resulting in cats named Heath or Snickers, etc.). I like Ashley's suggestion of a name with at least two syllables, and in my family's tradition I thought maybe "Toffee" would work based on her coloring and sweet, cuddly, kitty-ness. Of course, I also thought of "Serenity," "Buffy" or "Kaylee" to get a Whedon-verse name in there. Good luck, my friend. She's awfully cute!
