I currently work for the US Census. This is obviously a temporary job. I rather like it because of the wide range of things I must deal with on a daily basis - I love variety and complexity at work, even if some of it is due to pisspoor planning on the part of the higher echelon... My coworkers are awesome and interesting

I completely agree with you there. I can't add further to that. We ARE spoiled and don't have the sense to understand it.

I like the idea a lot. This, of course, is counter to what they talk about, and occasionally do, in Washington now - which is to reward companies that don't ship our jobs away overseas. But you know what, I'm all in favor of punishing the big boys when they deserve it, and this is a view that's not popular there, because they have far louder voices than mine.
