why do people litter?

I was commuting home tonight stuck behind a tow truck. All of a sudden, someone in the passenger side threw a Styrofoam cup out the window onto the street. Why?! You really couldn't just wait the ten minutes?

Some human emotions I can understand (even if I don't agree with them).  But littering? Just doesn't make sense.

Because they are slobs, and have no pride in their home or town.
