Serenity

Yes, it's Firefly, the movie. Yes, it's cowboys in space. 5.000000 out of 10. Highly mediocre.

I may have to stop watching science fiction. I think I might have seen all of it.

[Edit: with peerietrows and kropotkin29. Sorry about that guys.]
[Edit: More of my anti-Serenity whining on Doctor_Weather's journal.]

Theres definitely an element of that. Five or ten minutes of character defining exposition per main character when they're only going to be on screen for 120 mins. Works for a series (if you spread it out over a few epsisodes) but is mind bogglingly tedious in a film. Rule one for story telling: Show, don't tell! Exposition is bad!

I will have to dissagree with you about serenity. I thought is was clever and funny. What did peerietrows and kropotkin29 think of it?

Oh, everyone in the world likes it except me. spacelem almost looked he was going to take a pop at me cos I've been slagging it off. The Metro called it a "breath of fresh air that has invigourated the genre" or some such guff. Fair enough if the last scifi film you saw was "Aliens V Predator". As usual, I'm the only one thats right.

Just saw it Rik, and it actually lived upto expectations, there wasn't too much dialog at all, just enough infact. you have to remember that some viewers of the film won't have seen the series, and such some exposition is required. The plot was better than one would expect from a tv-film crossover aswell.

Grrrrrrr! I don't have to remember Jack Shit if I don't care to! The film was supposed to be independent of the series and didn't require the characters to be connected to it. My point still stands. Bah.
