If it was just the once, I'd have gone with that option - the fact that it re-occurred *after* I'd done a session-kill, and without any crashing oddness, seems mighty suspicious to me.
Well if andy's link didn't persuade you that was expected behaviour maybe my waffle might do some good after all. :) Basically I would expect it to do what you described given what you did.
That's good. That said almost exactly the same as I would have done. The brief version with slightly less confusingness is that the closing of a browser is invisible to livejournal and so *they* don't know you've logged out. Closing the browser is like destroying the key to a door. The door is still there and theoretically openable but with no key it might as well not be

If you haven't changed your password in the last week or so, it might be a good idea.

Livejournal does have a tendancy to leave records of passwords on various computers I've found and it is best to prevent any problem from occuring.
