Strange atmospheric phenomenon

I've never seen freezing rain and now I'm in the middle of it. The roads are totally iced over. My boss called and said I shouldn't come into work because it's too dangerous. She knows I'm not used to driving in these weather conditions and I live on a steep hill that's nearly impossible to navigate, even in heavy rain. Buses are running so ( Read more... )

I hear ya. I haven't gone outside yet, but I have no tea in the house so I'm gonna have to trek down to the safeway and get as much groceries as will fit in my backpack. Likewise, my car ain't goin' nowhere.

You're lucky you live near a large supermarket. I live in SW right off of Barbur, and the closest place to buy food is an overpriced mini-market (Swan Mart).

We just made the national news!

What part of Portland do you live in?

I'm also in SW. You know the park blocks? If you were downtown, say Fox Tower, and then walked along the park blocks through PSU, once you ran out of park you'd be on my doorstep. It's really a pretty good spot. Downtown is accessible, but not crowding me.

I think I know that Swan Mart.. I have some friends who live on SW Barbur, sounds like you're pretty close to them.

I just called Bellagio's and guess what? They're delivering! I ordered a pizza big enough to last me two days. Unlike you, I'm too cold and lazy to walk down the street to the market. Also, I don't think there's much to choose from at that place. Lots of Hostess Ding Dongs and what not.

Did you go to work/school today?

I don't know if the delivery driver will be able to make it up the hill to my house...If not, I go hungry.

What's the difference between hail and freezing rain? Is it like super small hail? I've never been in that kinda stuff either. Tea is good though...I wouldn't mind just drinking tea for a couple days, I don't drink enough down here. I looove tea.

That's a good question. Is freezing rain sleet? I think I might look into the subtle differences between rain, hail, sleet, and freezing rain. It might be beneficial to know these definitions while living up here in the Pacific Northwest. I can tell you that today, during the "freezing rain" storm, it sounded like hard raindrops hitting the windows in my apartment. It didn't sound the same as hail. There's snow all over the ground here in SW, not sheets or pellets of ice.

Yes! I can't stop drinking tea! My new thing is that Zen feng shui tai chi tea Tazo that you can buy at Starbucks. Funky, metaphysical names, but good, solid, strong tea. And the company is based here in Portland.

Haven't seen Big Fish yet, but as soon as I can get out of my spider hole I plan to see it. Monster starts Friday. Yay!
