So, how was your weekend?

Yesterday, Darren officially told his bosses that he was leaving Orange Cycle. I do believe they said "oh."

During spring break, I got a Dear John email from the University of Minnesota. They said it's not me, it's them.

I think you should contact them. I would want an objective critique from someone that makes those ultimate decisions. I believe there is some value to be had, even if it's some insight to how the "judgment" was made.

i'm sorry to hear about UMN. i know the feeling. i applied to a great deal of medical schools. drexel interviewed me and courted me for a long time. and then denied me. and i didn't even really want to go there. but i held on to that idea that i was wanted.

what really matters was that i was accepted to the place that i really wanted to go & am really happy here.

i know everything will work out for you. you are definitely one of my most brilliant friends. don't give umn a second look if it wasn't what your heart was set on in the first place. eyes on the prize.

Thanks for your support. It's good to know that really smart people get rejected too.

My friend Keerthi is a super genius, and she didn't get accepted to any med schools the first year she applied. I feel like there must be an element of coin toss in the application process.

There totally is......and if you decide to go the urban planning route, please apply to PSU and move to Portland anyway!

1. I'm sorry you didn't get in there (I have a friend who is applying to a different grad program there and I had dreamed that you two would meet up and become fast friends, heh).

2. You should contact them - you never know if what they tell you might bolster future applications - to either programs, fellowships or jobs. The possible good (sound advice, outside perspective) outweighs the possible negative (cruel words).

3. YOU ARE AWESOME, SO SCREW THEM.

4. "They were the boy at school that I was only slightly attracted to until he started dating another girl. Then I wanted him." = a brilliant analogy. I felt this way about a couple jobs I applied for last year.

5. One of my other brilliant friends (I like to think all my friends are brilliant?) just got rejected from every PhD program she applied to, including her safety schools. This gives me reason to think it is a bad year for the roses.

That's a huge bummer about your friend.

Thank you for your kind words.

Krystan, this is going to sound terribly cheese-tastic (soy cheese tastic)-- but in a year from now where you're at the absolute best school for you, you're going to be drinking a smoothie and think..man everything happens for a reason. You are a driven, smart, and engaging person. Anywhere that didn't jump on you immediately doesn't deserve you to begin with...and I suppose that extends the whole boy metaphor because I'd say that about any partner who wrote you that damn letter as well ( ... )

Thank you so much Jamie.

I saw a picture of the "KKK" almond people on the Guardian yesterday and thought, "Jamie is so lucky to be there for that."
