Game 047 [Written] - That Which Doesn't Kill Me, Though it Sure is Trying

Nov 21, 2011 00:47

[ The camera is covered, but Joshua is making no real effort to disguise his handwriting. He's too upset for that. ]

What should you do if you're so homesick you honestly, truly cannot stand it?

[ A few minutes later, the following is added. ]

[ Locked to Haruhi - 100% ]

The friendship club might have to wait a bit longer.

#written, serious question for once, 『luka megurine』, it's funny what you miss, would be awkward if josh did awkward, 『jason st. andrews』, when in doubt shut down emotions, this is serious business, almost lost shibuya once already, not telling people things, 『portgas d. ace』, 『mewtwo』, 『haru(k/h)i suzumiya』, 『shiki misaki』, 『nodoka miyazaki』

Since going home isn't an option we truly have. Maybe doing something you would do back home could help?

If I can ask, what is it exactly that's making you homesick? If it's something big like the place where you lived, I don't think there's a way around it. But if it's something less bigger, like a certain activity or something like that, I think it could be different.

It's everything. The place I lived, the people I knew, the sound of life in the city happening around me, all the way down to little things like the graffiti I'd catch glimpses of hiding away in back alleys.

I've already tried many of the things I do back home, but they all seem to be losing their effectiveness.

[That's... Definitively something serious. And she understands the feeling, she's not yet terribly homesick but the feeling is there. For a girl who has never been away from her family or her city, even just a month is far too long. Of course, she wouldn't dare to compare her experience to this person's experience, that would be rude and arrogant.]

I'm really sorry to read that. I suppose that asking the Malnosso to let you return even for a bit would be a naive idea, right? And if you're homesick, doing new things won't help either...

[She thinks, trying to find a solution. A way to be home without being home, to see again those places one once saw back home... An idea comes to mind, it won't be the same but...]

It probably won't be the same but have you tried the Battle Dome? I went there once and Adell programmed it to simulate a world he had seen there, it wasn't real but it felt real. The breeze, the scent carried by it, the feeling of the cold stone against my hands... I knew it wasn't real but if I stopped thinking about it ( ... )

If they haven't sent me home by now, I doubt they'd do it at this point.

I don't know if the Battle Dome will make things better or worse. What I'm missing isn't something I'd believe it capable of replicating.

I would suggest looking for something to take your mind off of home, if you can. Homesickness is always terrible. Could you listen to some music, go jogging, or do anything else that would make you think of something else? Even something like a puzzle can be of help.

But in the end, the homesickness always returns, doesn't it? It almost makes it seem like distractions aren't even worth it in the first place.

[There's a long pause as she considers if there's a permanent cure to homesickness, without visiting home.]

Please don't think of it like that. Even if it's only for a short time, those moments without it will feel wonderful. [...Oh, maybe this would work?] The battle dome can create any sort of environment you know. Perhaps you could recreate your home in a simulation? It won't be the same as being there, but it would be close.

That might be an idea. [ There's a pause. ] Although I wonder how close it would even be.

I'd imagine it's not a common feeling, but you might have experienced it. You visit someplace you know very well, but there's something off about it. Sometimes it doesn't matter much, but sometimes whatever is off makes the entire experience feel wrong or fake. The battle dome would likely be more like the latter, I'm afraid.

[ There's a pause, then Joshua throws up another filter. He at least realizes he's not in a state emotionally where he'd be confident he wouldn't let anything slip to Shiki he wouldn't want getting out further. ]

You say that as if I should get better.

And you say that as if you're content being miserable.

[.....same as him, eh.]

Do you think anything could really completely distract you from the homesickness?

I don't think so. But just because I can't think of anything doesn't mean I'm going to discard the possibility of someone else coming up with something.

Have you explored the entire area yet?

No. Most of this place is too empty for my tastes.

[This hits pretty close to home.]

I dream. Otherwise, I make Luceti part of my home, by recalling the piece of it that is within my instinct.

How does dreaming help? [ He can get to questioning the second part later. ]

When I am asleep, I sometimes dream of home, and it seems as real as truly being there. If I am awake, then it creates the feeling of being home.

Dreams aren't enough to fool me anymore. What do you mean by instinct?
