Last night I watched a very gay episode of Degrassi: Next Generation. Skipping over the fact that I watch that show in the first place, there are often gay plotlines on that series. And it's for kids. Which I guess shouldn't surprise me, and it doesn't, but it's weird to think about how much gay shit kids growing up these days see in the mainstream

Which gay episode?

Careless Whisper where Marco begins to admit to himself, and to Ellie, that he doesn't like girls?

Pride (which is really two episodes, named Pride and Why?) Where Marco comes out and Spinner knocks him up against the wall and writes "Marco is Gay" above the urinal?

Not that Mike and I watch Degrassi or anything. Or have a Tivo Season Pass of it. Or that I recognized JT from a Toaster Strudel commercial he did like four years ago... or anything...

it must have been "careless whisper" that i saw.

i really really hope that some day i can catch "pride" and "why?".

that show is amazing. 100% INTENSE! as they say.

Know what sucks? So there is this "new season" coming up next week. What it actually is is the second half of Season 3 (this is why you only see a few eps with that new opening credit thing where marco does the dorky jumping around in his jean jacket, it's from season three, but they only have showed like 5 eps from that seaso).

Anyway, there is a special two-part ep called Accident's Will Happen where we find out that Craig got Manny pregnant when they hooked up in that ep where he thought he and Ashley were going to get it on. But The N isn't going to show it!!!! Instead, we get those "mini-episodes" which are all the b-plot scenes from the two episodes re-edited so we don't have to know Manny got knocked up.

I'm assuming that Manny has an abortion at the end or something, and they are to lame to show it. Wusses.

wow. i suddenly feel much much better about the fact that i occasionally watch degrassi. at least i'm not like you!

i jest. i completely understand how easy it is to get hooked on that show.

i'm actually pretty elated to finally know what the hell is up with those stupid "mini-episodes."

the N seems like a relatively progressive channel; i'm suprised by their censorship, especially compared to other issues that they deal with.

There was an article in the New Yorker about an editorial that ran in support of gay marriage. The unusual thing was that it ran in the college paper of the oldest Baptist University in the county; one whose administration preaches against such things as inter-racial marriage. The administration went balastic, and soundly reprimanded the paper's editors, but the incident points up just what you are saying. To the upcoming generations it seems weird to try to imagine why anyone would discriminate based on sexual preferences.

I had a great toddler experience at the beach. Bob & I were out walking and came upon a mom, dad, and toddler girl strolling along. I smiled at the baby, and she jumped up and down, clapped her hands and squealed with pure delight. We both laughed out-loud.
