I think it's a great idea to raise awareness.  Yes, remembering reusable bags is sometimes inconvenient.  I admit I had to get several plastic bags yesterday ( Read more... )

Yesterday and the day before, I took re-usable bags for groceries, but both times, I had to use one plastic bag: one for chicken (and it leaked) and the other for a cleaning product that I didn't want to be mixed with the produce. I think I'll have to start bringing re-usable bag as well as plastic bags. But I'm only at the point where I remember bringing re-usable bags, so it may take a while :)

Yeah, I'm sometimes torn about raw meat and cleaners. But I have a couple of reusable bags that are cloth (cotton, I think) and they wash well, so I try to use those :)

The ones from Loblaws/Superstore are nice, but they certainly don't wash very well. I washed one y'day and it says they're washable, but it has white fluff all over it now! LOL

You can get plastic coated reusable bags for stuff like meat :)

The superstore one that I washed fell to bits! It has holes in it now..... not impressed

so I'm knitting a farmers market bag in bright red (organic cotton of course) first for my mum for mothers day, but then to keep tucked in my purse. It's small and won't take up much room so I can stash a couple in just in case I need something for my emergency "have to have: items ;)

I still have to keep all the reusable bags in the car trunk or else I'd forget and end up buying more reusable one :P

That's a great idea! I wonder if I can find those online anywhere...

I was going to ask you to make one for me, but I probably shouldn't add any extra work to your already busy schedule!

lol, i was thinking about making them and selling them. Right now you can only buy the beige colored ones... I thought funky colors for the more hip eco-mom. Sell them thru someone at the farmers market...

Let me get ryan back to work so I have some free time and we can talk. I'll be there in ottawa soon and have tons more time. I want to experiment with the pattern and may need some testers :P

Awesome! The ones online are stupidly marked up on shipping. One ebay seller even says in her description that she's jacked up the shipping rates TO PAY FOR the ebay fees!!! (Although she didn't use quite those words...)

Cute bag, but I'm not willing to pay that much for shipping!!

I've seen some at Walmart, I think. They were on the hangy things beside the cashes (you know, impulse purchase stuff). There were 2 sizes and I think one of them was smallish. They fold up into themselves. I can't find a link to them, because Walmart's website sucks :P

I've also seen a variety of sizes at Zellers recently, but I don't know how foldable they are.

It's another reason I prefer my canvas totes. In additional to being washable easily, they also fold up more easily.

oh, if your really crafty, you can make new plastic bags out of plastic bags! You knit the old strips. I saw the pattern but didn't try as you can recycle them here in the blue box.

And in some stores you can buy nylon-y fabric ones that come in cute little carry cases. Bout the size of a birth control pack :)

Scrunchable would be farmer's market ones for the best.... though I use to use a backpack when i did the grocery store thing

boy do i ever sound crunchy :P :P
